12 trains cancelled due to fog; several running delayed | See List

Dense fog has significantly impacted train operations on the northeastern railway route, leading to widespread delays and cancellations. On Sunday, several key express trains, including the 12556 Gorakh Dham Express and 12554 Vaishali Superfast, were severely delayed. The Gorakh Dham Express, scheduled to reach Gorakhpur at 09:55 AM, arrived at 07:15 PM, delayed by over nine hours. Similarly, the Vaishali Superfast, originally set to arrive at 09:20 AM, reached at approximately 01:00 PM, delayed by three and a half hours.

The fog has also disrupted normal operations, with train speeds reduced to a maximum of 75 km/h from the usual 60-75 km/h, affecting punctuality. Although fog-safe devices have been installed on all trains operating on the route, they have not fully mitigated the impact of the dense fog, which has led to reduced visibility and slower movement. Passengers, especially elderly, women, children, and sick travelers, have been enduring freezing temperatures at stations while waiting for delayed trains.

In response to the ongoing weather conditions, the railway administration has canceled 12 passenger trains between January 6 and 10. These cancellations include vital routes such as the Gorakhpur-Badhni, Gorakhpur-Chhapra, and Gorakhpur-Siwan passenger services. Since December 1, around 32 trains operating on the northeastern route have been canceled, and many others, including Hamsafar and various express trains, have had their frequencies reduced.

The delay and cancellation issues are particularly prominent on trains traveling from Delhi to Bihar, especially those passing through Gorakhpur. While trains operating from Gorakhpur to Delhi have largely been running on schedule, services in the opposite direction have been significantly delayed. Passengers are advised to stay updated with the latest information regarding train schedules, as dense fog is expected to continue affecting train services in the coming days.
